Happy International Women’s Day

International Women’s day is an occasion to remember Grandy, Steve Anderson’s grandmother whose story is told in the book Burma: Food, Family and Conflict.

In 1936 my grandmother, Grandy attended the Inter-Asian Relations Conference as a delegate for Burma. “I considered myself a good nationalist” she said, “when Lord Mountbatten, the new viceroy of India arrived, the photo of the delegates was being taken. When we were introduced I said to him, ‘it’s a pleasure to meet the LAST viceroy of India’.”
